Taking your first trip as a couple is going to be one of the biggest tests of your relationship. It’s probably going to be the first time you’ll be spending a lot of days together without much time alone, so it’s important to know what to expect. From my experience, there are a few things you should know that can help you when you’re travelling together, especially for the first time.
You’ll see each other’s inner side
While travelling is wonderful, it is also very stressful. All the rush and worrying about your passports and your tickets is bound to make anyone grumpy. And when you do get grumpy, there’s nowhere to go and cool off. You might snap and get angry at each other, and that will make you feel like the whole trip is ruined. This is where the true test of your relationship lies, in how you react to seeing the bad side of your partner. The best thing to do when an unpleasant situation happens is to laugh it off. And even if you do snap – don’t worry. Just apologize and don’t waste time holding any grudges. Remember, you’re there to have fun and arguing is hardly unusual in a relationship, so just let it go.
Your relationship can blossom
…or it can crash and burn. If this is your first trip together, you will have a real opportunity to bond and become closer, or maybe you will learn about all their weird habits and realise that you don’t want to deal with them. I certainly recommend that you pay close attention here, because it’s a good opportunity to see what your partner is like in everyday situations. Is he rude to service staff? Does he get grumpy if he didn’t have enough to eat? You will learn their habits and maybe your idolized idea of them will be shattered. Or perhaps you will find yourself endeared and your relationship will become more comfortable.
You will learn the importance of compromise
Make sure that your ideas and expectations about the trip match. Does one of you want to get up at 7 AM and spend all day walking and visiting museums, while the other just wants to laze around the beach? These things might seem like issues, but they are really minor and can easily be resolved. Agree on something you will both enjoy, or decide that one day you will do something that you want, and the other day you will do something that your partner wants. If you are wondering how to make a guy fall in love with you, girl, here’s your chance. Show him that you’re capable of being rational and able to compromise. Show him that you take his wants into consideration and, that way, show him that you’re a true girlfriend material.
Plan some time for yourself
Trust me on this, you will want some time for yourself. Not because you don’t love your partner, or something like that; it’s simply to recharge your batteries and be more relaxed. You will spend most of your time together, but spending 24 hours with one person can get a little overwhelming. So plan a time where you will read a book while your partner goes hiking, or go shopping for clothes while he watches some TV.
Relax
This might be the most important tip. If you are stressing about the trip and making too many plans, you’ll end up disappointed. I know things can be a bit difficult – after all, he will see all of you – all the weird habits, all the little quirks, everything. But that’s a good thing because it will bring your relationship to the next level. You must learn how to just be yourself and not worry too much. If he’s worth it, and if you are meant to be, things will work out pretty well.
